District Honor Band and Orchestra
Dear Students & Parents,
Thank you for your interest in this year’s SDUSD Honor Band and Orchestra Auditions! It’s our pleasure to serve as the middle school managers, and we are excited about this year’s experience. We look forward to making this an excellent learning and performing experience for our students in the district. Below is essential information you need to know, so read it carefully, share it with your parents, and mark these required dates on your calendar. Please note no fees are required for this event.
Honor Auditions
DAY and TIME: Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, 5:00 - 9:00 PM
LOCATION: Madison High School - Check-in room: Rm. 903 (behind the theatre, beside the band rm.) 4833 Doliva Dr, San Diego, CA 92117
Before the audition, please check the dates below before committing to the process because ALL rehearsals are required. Absences for any reason will result in the removal from the ensemble.
You may sign up online for an audition between January 7 - January 24th using a link provided by your music teacher. This link will also be posted on the VAPA Honor Ensemble page, which can be found here starting on Jan. 7. The required audition material is listed on page 2 of this letter and it is now posted on the honor ensemble page, linked here, with access to the audition materials.
REHEARSAL INFORMATION
LOCATION: Madison High School, Band Room and Theatre, 4833 Doliva Dr, San Diego, CA 92117. NOTE: the top 2-3 woodwind, brass, and percussion chair positions will also be invited to perform with the Middle School Honor Orchestra, listed as ‘Orchestra Winds’, below.

Knott's Berry Farm Festival
All classes will be participating in a Forum Festival on Saturday March 8th, 2025. The trip is not mandatory or part of a students grade. Below you will find a link for the payment information and requirements for the trip. There is also a TENTITIVE itinerary for the trip. Please email me with further questions, rflores1@sandi.net. Trip info sheet and sign-up form also available in the music room. Due date to sign-up is December 1st, 2024.

Winter Concert
5:00pm – Orchestras Arrive
-Beginning to the stage
-Advanced in Music Room
5:15pm – Auditorium Opens
5:30pm – Act 1 of show starts
5:45pm - Advanced Orchestra to Stage.
6:00pm – Int. / Beginning and Jazz band arrives.
6:15pm – Int. / Beginning band to stage
-Jazz Band in Music Room
6:30pm – Act 2 of show starts.
6:45pm – Jazz Band to the stage.
7pm – Advanced Band arrives in Music Room.
7:30pm – Act 3 of show starts
– Advanced Band begins performing from music room.
8:15pm – Show is OVER!
Parents that don’t have students performing in the current “Act” need to leave the auditorium to create space for family of students in current “Act” section performance. There will be refreshments outside of the auditorium along with live video of the performance.

Standley Music is hosting a Bowling Night for the students as a fundraiser. Here is how it works.

Selected Adv. Band and Adv. Orchestra students will go to the local elementary schools to perform.
8:00am – Walk to Curie
9:15am - Curie performance for 5th graders.
10am walk to Standley Park.
11am (lunch) – Parent Brings Pizza.
12:30pm walk to Spreckels.
1:30pm Spreckels Performance for 5th graders
2:30pm walk back to Standley
Orchestra Fall Concert
The Orchestra will be putting on an “Advisory Period” concert for the students at school on Friday October 25th. Parents are welcome to attend. You must sign in at the front office. Concert is in the Auditorium. Two concerts.

30 minutes after game ends - Dismissal from the Band Room

Taking the 8th Graders up to UCHS to practice for Football Game Oct. 18th.

I will be walking back to Standley. Students are welcome to walk back with me or go home from USHS
